Sneak Peek …Updated Again
November 9, 2007 by John in SSDD, Web Design, jb.com Edit This
I’ve had a new design in mind for this site for some time now. Since I’ve got nothing going on with SSDD Web Design right now, I think it’s time to remodel JohnBedard.com. Below is my design mockup from Photoshop. I’m not 100% on the colors and some of the graphic elements, but the layout is a lock, including the staggered, overlapping columns. I also may not put the “Pieces of Flair” in that middle column. I have something else in mind for that space but that will have to remain a surprise. The flair will probably go in the right column just below the search box or the external links. And since I have a license for Monoslideshow, I think that’s what I’ll use for that image space in the header section. It’s the same slideshow I used on the HKM site (they bought their own license, freeing up the one I bought for development). I’ll be building this as a WordPress theme from scratch. The next step is a static HTML prototype which I’ll then carve up into the theme files and add the PHP code for WordPress.

Rob Zombie
by John in Entertainment Edit This
I found out Wednesday night that Rob Zombie was doing a concert in Great Falls last night (Thursday the 29th). He’s touring with Ozzfest, which is playing tonight in Billings, and for whatever reason decided to do a side gig in Griffals.
I sorta wrote it off - I figured it would be sold out. Ozzfest sold out in Billings in less than 24 hours. Also, I already had something going on - the volunteer appreciation party for the hospital gala. But Thursday morning, the day of the Great Falls concert, one of my buddies called to say he had an extra ticket. WAHOO! SCORE!
Turns out it wasn’t sold out and the Fenskes were able to join us. I left work early and rode up with with Jason and Naomi. Gene was up in Havre on business. Nancy had to work late. We all just converged on Great Falls and it all just kinda came together at the very last minute.

Three Mile Island vs. Global Warming… FIGHT!
November 8, 2007 by John in Current Affairs Edit This
Any article that starts out by blaming Jane Fonda for global warming is a must read. The Freakonomics boys take on Jane Fonda - Nuclear Energy - The China Syndrome - Three Mile Island - Power and Energy - Global Warming - Fossil Fuels (New York Times):
But the big news is that nuclear power may be making a comeback in the United States. There are plans for more than two dozen new reactors on the drawing board and billions of dollars in potential federal loan guarantees. Has fear of a meltdown subsided, or has it merely been replaced by the fear of global warming?
Cheap FIRST Date?

Always Go On A Cheap First Date - DLM
Set a low bar. If the first date works out, you’ll be going on future dates with this person. Spending a lot of money on the first date will make it more difficult to impress him/her later on. By setting a low bar (cost-wise), you make it easier to exceed expectations in the future
Actually the cheapest date is the one where she pays. C’mon, it’s the 21st Century. Women want, nay have, equality. Some would say the pendulum has swung too far, at least in the media. Time to step up to the plate, ladies…
