Apple: Give Us Money And We’ll Remove DRM From Your Music

99% of my music is from CDs or from Amazon. I’ve probably purchased 2 dozen songs through iTunes mostly due to convenience, and it hasn’t really been a problem.

All you people complaining about “paying again” for music you already “paid for” BOUGHT THE DRM-LADEN MUSIC. AND YOU KNEW IT HAD DRM. Maybe not the first one or first few, but eventually you figured it out and kept buying DRMed songs. DEAL WITH IT. You still get to play your DRMed music. Nothing has been taken away. You can either get some kind of DRM-stripping software, burn audio CDs and re-rip the songs as MP3s, or suck it up, and pay the “DRM stripping fee” of 30 cents a song. It’s just a service charge and most people won’t need to pay it.

Buncha friggin whiners…

Epic Fail II

Okay, this is a much more EPIC epic fail than the one I posted earlier, Guitarist Satriani accuses Coldplay of plagiarism:

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rock guitarist Joe Satriani has sued British band Coldplay, accusing the Grammy-nominated stars of plagiarizing one of his songs.

Satriani’s copyright infringement suit, filed on Thursday in Los Angeles federal court, claims the Coldplay song “Viva La Vida” incorporates “substantial original portions” of his 2004 instrumental “If I Could Fly.”

The 52-year-old guitar virtuoso is seeking a jury trial, damages and “any and all profits” attributable to the alleged copyright infringement.

Judge for yourself:

UPDATE: Here is guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani’s song. Listen for the chorus.
And here is tuneless eurofag Coldplay’s song. Why EMI pulled the mashup version and not these I’ll never know. EMI must represent Coldplay and removed evidence that would reflect poorly on Coldplay.

My opinion? Coldplay is skah-rewd. Go get’em, Joe.

Rob Zombie

I found out Wednesday night that Rob Zombie was doing a concert in Great Falls last night (Thursday the 29th). He’s touring with Ozzfest, which is playing tonight in Billings, and for whatever reason decided to do a side gig in Griffals.

I sorta wrote it off - I figured it would be sold out. Ozzfest sold out in Billings in less than 24 hours. Also, I already had something going on - the volunteer appreciation party for the hospital gala. But Thursday morning, the day of the Great Falls concert, one of my buddies called to say he had an extra ticket. WAHOO! SCORE!

Turns out it wasn’t sold out and the Fenskes were able to join us. I left work early and rode up with with Jason and Naomi. Gene was up in Havre on business. Nancy had to work late. We all just converged on Great Falls and it all just kinda came together at the very last minute.

Puts a smile on my face

So I’m pulling into the parking lot at work after seeing my grandmother at lunch. It’s a beautiful, sunny, 50-degree Spring day and I’ve got Metallica’s “Blitzkrieg” cranked on my iPod, playng through the car stereo. A woman from an office upstairs comes walking by with a scowl on her face that seems to say, “Damned kids!” She makes eye contact and instantly the look on her face turns to confusion as to why a fat middle-aged guy would be blasting heavy metal in his car. I cackled for a solid 5-10 minutes on that one.

Halo: CorpoMix

These kids do a really good version of the Halo theme with a bit of a harder edge:

Send Music and Photos to your Cellphone, for FREE

I think mobile17 is the current incarnation of the service I used to send the Munsters and Mission Impossible themes to my phone as ringtones. I haven’t tried it recently but I told someone I would post it here again if I found it. So, there ya go.

Quite Good, Mr. Bond

The only thing I didn’t like about Casino Royale was that it is rated PG-13. However, Daniel Craig is an excellent James Bond. He has an edge that no prior actor has been able to give the part. I think Timothy Dalton tried to make him edgy, to differentiate himself from Roger Moore, but the performance was just as hollow as Moore’s. I daresay Craig is better than Connery. Craig has the physicality (is that a word?) that makes the stunts he pulls off believable. Heresy, I know, but I won’t make a final judgment until we get to see a couple more installments.

Update: I dug out the only James Bond music I have - Moby’s version. It’s way too pretty for this new movie. Way too slick. It fits better with the Brosnan movies. The new movie needs something more metal or industrial. More brutal.

Get it out of my head!

Ever since I saw the commercial for Gears of War (more at Kottke) I haven’t been able to get the song Mad World out of my head. I think trepanation might be in order.

Space Hottie

The “first female private space explorer and space ambassador” (read: space tourist), Anousheh Ansari (annoying background music alert), also happens to be a real cutie. Also an Iranian, I have to wonder if that country isn’t hiding more hotties under burkhas. The buzzkill comes when I realize that there are countless asshats in her birth country (and most neighboring countries) who would kill her for a variety of reasons…
