Justice

Man to get child support back (via The Tom Leykis Show)

Judge David Roper said he felt badly for Kenneth Samuels when he learned the child he had fathered for 11 years wasn’t his.

Justice was also shortchanged, the judge said, because Mr. Samuels had been paying child support all of those years.

Last month, Judge Roper ruled that Jamie Hope, the child’s mother, and Oba Wallace, the child’s biological father, would have to repay Mr. Samuels $14,460 in child support he had paid since 1997.

Such an order is unusual, but not unique.

I doubt this would’ve been the outcome had this taken place in California or if the Judge was female. All too often the poor schlub who got stuck paying for a kid that wasn’t his, either doesn’t get the money back or, far worse, the man has to keep paying even though the kid isn’t his.

Hopefully Samuels can collect.

Why are People Having Fewer Kids?

Why are People Having Fewer Kids? (via The Tom Leykis Show):

“Economists have modeled the impact of many variables on people’s overall happiness and have consistently found that children have only a small impact. A small negative impact,” reports Harvard psychologist and happiness researcher Daniel Gilbert. In addition, the more children a person has the less happy they are. According to Gilbert, researchers have found that people derive more satisfaction from eating, exercising, shopping, napping, or watching television than taking care of their kids. “Indeed, looking after the kids appears to be only slightly more pleasant than doing housework,” asserts Gilbert in his bestselling, Stumbling on Happiness (2006).

Of course, that’s not what most parents say when asked.

A Great Weekend

For those of you who don’t know, Saturday was my 41st birthday. The great thing about a birthday on a weekend is you get to play the entire weekend. After work on Friday Sherri and I went to Costco and picked up my new Xbox360. I had saved up most of the money, and it was payday so I had the rest, but she insisted on kicking in for part of it. She also gave me the Halo3 special edition and Call of Duty 4, two of the best games I’ve ever played. Just need to buy Gears of War for the shooter hat trick. The shopping spree was followed by a nice prime rib dinner at the Silver Star.

The Continuing Case Against Marriage

Marriage: It’s only going to get worse (via The Adam Carolla Show):

If your spouse already bugs you now, the future is bleak. New research suggests couples view one another as even more irritating and demanding the longer they are together.

The same trend was not found for relationships with children or friends.

The study results could be a consequence of accumulated contact with a spouse, such that the nitpicking or frequent demands that once triggered just a mild chafe develops into a major pain.

Of course, the apologists go on to white wash their conclusions by saying, “That means you’re closer.” Feh.

Cheap FIRST Date?

Always Go On A Cheap First Date - DLM

Set a low bar. If the first date works out, you’ll be going on future dates with this person. Spending a lot of money on the first date will make it more difficult to impress him/her later on. By setting a low bar (cost-wise), you make it easier to exceed expectations in the future

Actually the cheapest date is the one where she pays. C’mon, it’s the 21st Century. Women want, nay have, equality. Some would say the pendulum has swung too far, at least in the media. Time to step up to the plate, ladies…
