“What the hell is an Aluminum Falcon?”

Harley Davidson really is desperate

Buy a motorcycle, get stock in Harley-Davidson:

Milwaukee Harley-Davidson on the city’s northwest side is giving 100 shares of Harley stock to any customer who buys a 2008 model motorcycle and 50 shares with the purchase of a 2009 model.

Shares of Milwaukee-based Harley-Davidson closed at $16.72 on Dec. 9. The 52-week high was $49.56 per share, recorded in December 2007. Harley-Davidson’s share price has been hindered by worsening global economic conditions, negative currency effects and the impact of tighter credit markets.

The Year in Cities 2008 (and 2007)

I haven’t done the Year in Cities since 2006. In a nutshell this meme is a list of all cities that you spent one or more nights in. So far for 2008, I’ve got the following (including motorcycle trips to Arizona and Seattle/BC and another trip to BC):

Much better than 2006, and pretty good for a hosehead. I don’t currently have plans to go anywhere else this year.

The Best Triumph Bobbers

The Best Triumph Bobber Pictures Post - The Jockey Journal Board. There are some outstanding bikes in this thread. I haven’t even made if very far (it was started back in 2006). For example (so tempted right now to powdercoat my rims dark green and leave the spokes polished and get wide white walls)…

Ground up Triumph Chopper

I’ve always wanted to make a chopper out of my bike (the new generation, not my actual current bike). Someone just posted this on BonnevilleAmerica.com: Ground up Triumph

Probably wouldn’t come cheap and they don’t appear to be offering a rolling chassis kit. More pictures on their site…

The Road Beckons

(posted on the wall of the Triumph Bonneville America group on Facebook…)

I’m going through withdrawals. I’ve finished my big planned trips for the year. I’ve gone on three trips in less than a year totaling about 7800 miles. I want to hit the road again, but I can’t afford it and I have 4 hours of vacation left. ::sigh::

It’s probably all for the better though. I need to put a new rear tire on my bike and I’m thinking about buying a new drive belt to try to cure the squeaking the current one is doing. It also wouldn’t be bad to get the new paint job done and other accessories installed (headlight, turn signals, etc.).

I dunno, just needed to whine for a minute. The road beckons…

2008 Kootenay Raid/PNW Tour

Well, I’m off to meet up with Halpop (”Freedom” on BA.com) at his place in Thompson Falls, MT. Tomorrow we’re heading west over the Northern Cascades of Washington, rather than north up into British Columbia. This year we decided to make a run out to the west coast prior to the Kootenay Raid (Triumph Rally) in Nelson, BC (our fourth time at the event, and my fifth trip into BC). While out there we’re going to meet up with a couple of our Triumph brethren, tour Vancouver Island and ride to Nelson as a small group.

While in Nelson (Thurs-Sun) we’ll once again be staying at the Mountain Hound Inn. The only thing that would make this hotel better is if they had a back door that opened up directly onto the Grand Hotel’s parking lot, also known as Kootenay Raid HQ.

As per usual, watch this space for pictures and a ride report.

Southwest Triumph Fest

Prescott, AZ, May 16-18th. About 1000 miles less than last year’s California trip. But I’m going to try and convince a buddy to take our bikes down there in his truck. You just can’t trust the weather around here in May.

Google Maps has decided not to play nice with embedding my map, but you can see it if you click the link above. Update: Apparently it has a problem with the new-fangled markers that aren’t waypoints or stops. So I converted the markers to stops and it displays.
