The Landover Baptist Church is a fictional Baptist church based in the fictional town of Freehold, Iowa. The Landover Baptist web site and its associated Landoverbaptist.net Forum are a parody of fundamentalist Christianity and the Religious Right in the United States, and of Westboro Baptist Church in particular.

Okay, what started this for me is a new item on The Adam Carolla Radio Show. It went something like this:
Man Feared Drowned During Baptism In Delta
RIO VISTA, CA ― Rescuers have called off the search for a 22-year-old man feared drowned during a baptism in the San Joaquin Delta.
The Hispanic man disappeared under the water late Sunday afternoon near the Brannan Island State Recreation Area, northeast of the San Francisco Bay, according to Coast Guard officials.
I was going to link to it as a somewhat ironic anecdote. But when I ran it through Google, I found out that it wasn’t the baptized man who disappeared:
“Investigators had originally thought the man had disappeared while being baptized in the water, but it turns out he was just swimming in the area near the baptism.” (link)
So I was about to skip posting it here. But looking around further I stumbled across this little bit of vitriolic hate and racism from an unexpected source, though I don’t know why I was surprised:

Praise Jesus and His Mercy! THIS greasy wetback was obviously attempting to gain entry to the Kingdom of Heaven through Holy Baptism under false pretenses. Jesus wasn’t fooled by his slimy, cheap trick. GLORY!
This was posted by a baptist pastor. None of the news stories indicate that this person was an illegal immigrant, but does it really matter? Sick and evil. Is this the kind of god you people want to worship, or the kind of piece of shit pastor you want to worship with? I’m just hoping this is some fringe cult ala the Westboro Baptists Church, the jackholes who protest at soldier’s funerals.
For every Dave Ramsey out there, I’m guessing there are thousands of asshats like this. Ramsey is the only evangelical I’ve found that I can respect.
