Updating the Slideshow
June 9, 2008 by John in JB.com
So apparently Monoslideshow, the flash application I use in the header of my homepage, caches the images and XML files in such a way that simply refreshing the page does not refresh the slideshow. This is quite maddening. So I reckon I’m going to have to do something like this, post the images in a blog entry so that when you visit, the slideshow will be updated for you, too. So here’s a couple images from my recent Arizona trip, and updating images that were moved (hit refresh in your browser if the first two are my bike on a ferry and a picture of a lake):

This work around is pissing me off and hopefully the creator or the braintrust over on the Monoslideshow Forum will come up with a workable and less hacky solution that we’ve seen so far.
Unfortunately, this workaround isn’t applicable to the cached XML file, and putting it in an iframe doesn’t seem to work. So the captions won’t update. If it bugs you at all, you can follow this simple (!) process:
- view it in your browser
- hit “Refresh”
- hit “Back”
- go to the homepage
- hit “Refresh” again to see the updated captions
What a pain in the junk.
