“Go for Papa Palpatine!”

A Great Weekend

For those of you who don’t know, Saturday was my 41st birthday. The great thing about a birthday on a weekend is you get to play the entire weekend. After work on Friday Sherri and I went to Costco and picked up my new Xbox360. I had saved up most of the money, and it was payday so I had the rest, but she insisted on kicking in for part of it. She also gave me the Halo3 special edition and Call of Duty 4, two of the best games I’ve ever played. Just need to buy Gears of War for the shooter hat trick. The shopping spree was followed by a nice prime rib dinner at the Silver Star.

Saturday morning Nancy took me out for breakfast (Gene was still in Hawaii, poor baby) at IHOP. I spent most of Saturday afternoon playing Halo3, then Sherri and I went to the company party Saturday night. Why the company party on my birthday? Well, since they started doing “Casino Night” a couple years ago, it’s been a lot of fun. No way in hell would I have ever gone to one of the old-style company parties on my birthday. Unfortunately we didn’t win anything at the end of the evening. After few hours of draw, stud and no peek poker I broke even (story of my poker life). I had 16 raffle tickets. We started with enough play money for 5 tickets. I paid $10 for 10 more, and the sixteenth ticket was due to successfully filling out a quiz at the office last week. I put two in the GPS package jar and 14 into the Nintendo Wii package jar. The Wii jar was jam-packed and I knew the odds were slim. I think several people bought a lot of extra raffle tickets. Afterwards Sherri and I retreated to my house and watched a movie. Oh I almost forgot, at least a dozen of my chucklehead friends from the office marched, clapping, into the middle of the Elk’s Lodge and sang the Applebee’s birthday song (”at” me more that “to” me), cuz they heard how much I LOVE THAT SONG. (That’s sarcasm, by the way.) Still, pretty funny.

Sunday was a bit more mellow. Mom came down from Griffals for lunch at the Brewhouse followed by “There Will Be Blood.” Excellent movie. I would’ve been bummed if any movie but “No Country for Old Men” beat it out for Best Picture. If you could distill my dark side into one person and add a deadly competitive edge, it would be Daniel Plainview. A relaxing evening was spent at Sherri’s for dinner with my mom and her family.

All in all a great weekend.
