Don't interrupt a good rant with facts.

Oh, SNAP!

Snap Fitness is waiving the $50 signup fee for the month of July. The dues are $30/mo, there’s no contract (30 day notice to cancel any time) and you can put your membership on hold up to 3 months. I signed up this morning.

Return from Paradise

Got back from Nelson about 10:30pm Sunday. I’m just beat and taking a day to recuperate. The trip was not …uneventful.

Mini Vacation

For the next few days I’ll be doing this on my motorcycle. The hotel I’m staying at has internet connectivity and a PC for guests, so I may or may not be checking e-mail and posting updates about the trip. Hopefully I’ll have some cool pics to share on my return.

This is the trip I’ve been laboring on my bike for and so far, knock on wood, everything has come together. I’ve put over 1000 miles on my bike since I got it running a few weeks ago. It’s running splendidly. Yesterday I fixed the saddlebag latch that broke a couple weeks ago (never again will I put old Harley crap on something that isn’t an old Harley). The tire pressure and oil level are checked. I washed the bike last night without creating any new issues. Everything is sorted out. The cell and iPod are charged. The bags are packed. The Canadian money is in my wallet (that reminds me, where’d I put my passport? oh yeah…).

Now all I have to do is relax. I can’t believe I made it.

345.7

Coming back down. I have reason to believe this is fairly accurate, even though my scale goes nuts every once in a while. One day last week it said I was 339 (if only!). But the the holes in my belt and other …circumstances, seem to validate this reading.

Of course, I’m going on an extended weekend trip this Thursday which means fast food on the road and great (if not healthy) food and booze at the destination, but I’m hoping to focus on the riding as much as possible to stay busy and stay distracted.

California Dreamin’

Doing a little trip planning for this fall. Getting to Reno is a no-brainer. From there, well, I call this one the Wild Weasel. 871 miles, 2 days. I have three other routes planned out for this leg of the trip, including a coastal route along Pacific Coast Highway, but this is by far the longest and my favorite.

Wrinkled Face Book

Old People Swarm Facebook, Overtake College Students

Perhaps to the dismay of college students across the nation, 40 percent of Facebook’s audience, following the lifting of membership restrictions in September, is now over the age of 34. It’s not like we didn’t see this coming since day one. What was once an exclusive social network for 18-22 year olds (or anyone with a .edu address) is now home to the masses. The much older masses according to new figures from comScore.

That’s right, bitches! We’re taking over!

Scientific Savvy? In U.S., Not Much

At a time when science permeates debates on everything from global warming to stem cell research, he said, people’s inability to understand basic scientific concepts undermines their ability to take part in the democratic process.

I worry that the magic pill for obesity, probably something that resets a portion of your DNA, won’t get invented because people are too stupid to elect the right government officials who would fund such research, whether directly or indirectly. At first I thought the private sector would handle it, but they have no vested interest in curing obesity (yeah, yeah, it’s a lifestyle, not a disease) — they make too much money off diet fads and treatment for the symptons of obesity, e.g. diabetes, apnea, high blood pressure, etc.

Another related thought: These people are voting. If that doesn’t make you wake up screaming in the middle of the night, nothing will.

IPHOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNE!!!

All my news feeds have been overrun by iPhone posts! Especially the web design feeds. The reviews and whining about the lack of an SDK and/or Java are starting to give way to tips and tricks and speculation on the next generation iPhone. How crazy is that? People just spent $600 on a phone and they’re already looking forward to the next one.

And no, I wouldn’t get one even if we had AT&T in Montana. I don’t use 80% of the functionality of my new LG VX8600 phone.

Fantastic Four (2): Rise of the Silver Surfer

I didn’t intend to write this review, but since I went to the trouble to write the following in an e-mail to a friend, I thought I’d post it here. I’ve edited it to read more like a blog entry, not an e-mail.

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

I are edjumicated

I’m fairly anal about spelling and grammar. When I type something “wrong” it’s usually on purpose. Today I’m a tiny bit chagrined to learn that I may have been reversing whose and who’s:

“Whose” is really the possessive form of “who.”

Examples: Whose umbrella should I borrow today? I can’t remember whose umbrella this is.

“Who’s” is the contraction of “who is” or “who has.”

Examples: Who’s knocking at my door? I don’t know who’s been knocking at my door in the middle of the night.

Um, whoops.
